It was Christmas Eve when we got to take Evie home. I'd gotten a call from the shelter that morning - "She's still not eating and we don't want to send a sick cat home, sorry." This confused me, because one of us had been visiting her in the shelter every day and she ate every time we saw her. Also, we'd been told that if we could give her the antibiotic ourselves (which I can do, believe me) that we could take her home soon. I was a little pissed at being given a contradicting, one-sentence story and was planning to give them a piece of my mind later.
Well Natalie went over to visit her that afternoon, and as soon as she walked in the staff member said "Oh, you can take her home today." One bus ride later, Evie was home. She adjusted remarkably well. She did not run and hide at her arrival, but calmly explored. Kita went berserk, but she was kenneled. She managed to intimidate Evie a little, but by the end of the evening the kitten was no longer afraid of the 50 lb. dog. They became fast friends.
She's sweet and affectionate, curious and smart. And yes, she eats just fine. She's still got the kitten-crazies - she'll bolt after nothing and run random zig-zags through the apartment, but she always calms down. Sometimes she's still too curious for her own good, but we keep a good eye on her. She's also very picky about her litter. She'll only use litter made from recycled newspaper. As long as we use that kind she has no litter box problems. She's very tolerant of being held and enjoys snuggles, which I appreciate.

Here's Evie on her first night home. She's 4 months old.

And 2
On Christmas we had Chinese food and saw The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The night before that we all went to The Russian Tea Room for dinner. It was a first for me. What a fancy place. I got to try fois gras. The holiday wasn't all good - Jonathan did his best to ruin things with teenage drama as usual, but we made enough good memories.
We all got a lot of DVDs this year. Mom got Mama Mia for the two of us, and Natalie got it for Mom. I had gotten it for Natalie, so I was gonna give it to Elise instead but Mom got it for Elise too. x__x So I'm giving my unwanted copy to Kyleen when we see her on New Year's. I got Natalie The 5th Element, The Girl Who Leaped Through Time, the first season of Psych, some curtains, a Nyanko plush, Okami for the wii, and other stuff. She got me The Prince of Egypt, Paprika, a Konata keychain and pins, to name a few things. We also got the new DDR and the new Lucky Star DVD (out three weeks early!) for ourselves. Mom got me a lot of things, like a new dish drainer and a rice cooker. I can tell that I'm getting to be a boring anal adult when a dish drainer is on my Chanukah list. Mom also got us all tickets to see Mama Mia on Broadway next month. I feel so spoiled. :[
Dad stopped paying Mom her child support checks this month, and she's dangerously low on money. She won't take him to court because that will also cost money. She got super-stressed over that. I still don't know how it'll be resolved. Yesterday was Natalie's birthday, which I had vowed to make special somehow. We were going to meet my family and Sandra in the city. That morning, my grandfather died. Don't feel sorry for me, I hated the bastard and he hated me, but my mom was not well. She and the rest of my family obviously had to cancel. Sandra called very shortly after and said she was sick. Natalie became depressed. I hate to say it, but she's right when she says that people cancel on her all the time. They do. She was hoping that it wouldn't happen on her birthday, but... ::sigh:: I was put in a difficult situation. Mom wanted me home for company, but Natalie wanted someone there for her birthday. I stayed with Natalie and told Mom that we needed to be picked up later so that I could do something for Natalie. Mom understood. Natalie stayed at home for a while and I pampered her as best as I could. I gave her her last present and took her to her favorite shish-kebab place for dinner. She didn't seem 100% satisfied, but she thanked me for working so hard to make her happy. She was impressed that I had taken such a shitty day and made it decent for her.
We were taken home very late by my dad last night. Mom was asleep. I'm not sure what I can do for her. She doesn't know how to arrange a funeral, I doubt she can afford one, and her dad is gone. If she wants me to be here for her, I can at least do that.
Tomorrow is New Year's Eve. I have to go to work, I can't keep missing it. But we'll still have our party. I wanted to see Lisa today, but now I don't know if I can do it. I might have to try on New Year's Day. That'll be stressful. Natalie leaves for two weeks the day after that. I'm not looking forward to that. I never do. I'll be fine though.
Megchan's website translated Love Song! :D It's a Hirano Aya song that I always imagined as an ending song for our Level Up! fanfiction, but I wanted to know all of the words and see if they were appropriate. I think that they fit fairly well.
